Pictures of Summer - Week 7

Thank you PFC for sending me to the Write From the Beginning...And Beyond training! I am already a Thinking Maps trainer of trainers so I was thrilled to be trained to use Thinking Maps in my writing program. For the last several years I'd been teaching ELA using the Reader's and Writer's Workshop model and I loved it, still do. I integrated TM's into writing daily anyway and the Write From the Beginning program is like my Thinking Map infused Writer's Workshop on steroids and with specific grade level focus. I love it. LOVE it. I really just cannot wait to get in my classroom and start using all of these amazing strategies! So... it may not look like much in pictures, but trust me -this week was a game changer!

Pictures of Summer - Week 6

Vegas baby! Have y'all been to the SDE conferences? OMG. Last year I was lucky to attend the I Teach 2nd conference and this year I was fortunate to attend the Singapore Math conference. Thank you PFC! It was absolutely amazing! I loved Singapore Math before and used it with the littles, but never had a chance to use it for older, mature 4th graders. I am super hyped to teach math this way and can't wait to delve into all that division and fraction goodness! Here are some pics from a fantastic week...

Pictures of Summer - Week 5

Lots of energy was expended in my new classroom this week, creating "areas", finishing boards, assembling some storage carts and a little desk, and creating my Cougar Pride area! I can't wait to see the work that my kids choose to put up here!
Room 17 isn't quite done though. It still needs to be cleaned and I'm waiting on my tables to arrive so I can get rid of the huge yucky desks. Also, I need shelving and bookshelves so I'll be heading to IKEA for some storage solutions. That'll have to wait til August 1, though, because the next two weeks I have professional development. One week in Vegas, baby, for Singapore Math and then the following in Alhambra for Write...From the Beginning.
Always great to learn a new way to be awesome!
This week looked like this...

Pictures of Summer - Week 4

Wow! So week 4. What can I say about week 4. It was absolutely exhausting and exciting because I got to move into my new classroom.  I think the hardest part of any new classroom is creating a flow that will encourage student movement and learning, make transitions easy and be visually appealing. That said, I spend a good part of day one just sitting in the space, imagining, moving furniture, and then moving it back. I'm sure there will be tweaks once my amazing 4th graders fill the room with awesomeness. The other days this week were filled with organizing supplies and starting to put up boards. Yeah - like I said, exhausting but exciting!

So... yeah.  These bins are amazing, btw. They're from Costco and stack like a dream!
Wow. The last teacher must have ran out of here on the last day - she didn't even erase her boards! ;) #seriouslythoughitwasadirtymess
Lots to unpack but I had to put in some personal touches straight away!

Pictures of Summer - Week 3

Week 3 of my summer break included traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC for my husband's family reunion. It was great to see family again and visit somewhere I'd never been before. We were pretty mesmerized by the storm that blew in, since rain is so rare here in SoCal and got in a little beach time, too! So fun! Here are some pics...
Flying into South Carolina we were greeted by a beautiful rainbow!
Sunrise...
I love the beach! OMG the water was so warm!
Here is a storm that was blowing in during dinner on the pier...
After the storm, the sky along the boardwalk was amazing!
