Enjoying my last few days of summer vacation...

Pets In The Classroom

PetsInTheClassroom.Org is an excellent resource for teachers who are willing and able to incorporate a pet into their classroom. The organization provides a grant to acquire a pet or a grant to help support the care of an existing Pets In the Classroom pet
Actually, Willie is the result of a grant from PetsInTheClassroom.Org and he has been such a special member of the class! He is beyond loved!
Students have asked about him this summer, so I thought I'd post a few pictures showing how Willie has spent his summer, so far. Yep - he loves the water!
Oh - and Click here for more information about PetsInTheClassroom.Org.

Pen Pals!

I heard a rumor online that pen pals will be arranged soon (7am Saturday!!!). I'm ready! My kids loved writing postcards last year so I thought I'd make a couple fun postcards for next year's kiddos. Enjoy!

Do You Send Postcards to Your New Students?

I'm so, so excited about back to school - and I know I will get my class list soon. The minute I do, I'm going to write my postcards to send to my new students!
Last year I got so many compliments from parents who told me it was the first time their child received actual mail!  I jazzed up my cards a bit this year and made another version that's a bit less cutesy for those who like a simpler design.

I've been using these resources for a while because I didn't find anything just right for my students- so I created them! Well, I'm beginning to make adjustments and put them on TpT! If you're looking for some ELA support, I've uploaded some and will be continuing to add more!

Both the task card sets and the practice/quiz sets include opportunities to create Thinking Maps to organize thinking and cement learning. These have really made a difference in my students' understanding - especially my BIG group of ELL's.  Plus - the sets have a similar structure so students can really focus on content instead of trying to figure out instructions that change each week. LOVE! I hope you find them useful, too!

Winner, Winner - Veggie Dinner!

OMG! Look what I won at The Primary Pack blogger meet up after the TpT conference in Vegas!
It is Gorgeous! Capital G!

Tip-Toeing Into BTS!

So I've been to Vegas for a week for (AMAZING) conferences, working on a tech project for my school, taking 12 units this summer and trying to get some TpT projects going. And at the end of the month I go to a week long writing conference and then, get my classroom ready. Yes - this is a teacher's summer BREAK! You know what I mean. Well, taking a break from all those duties I just mentioned, I went to Daiso and picked up this!

I can't wait to use the apple to house my students reward tickets until I pull them for prizes. So cute, right!?

I couldn't resist the slinky type things to streeeeeeeetch out words with struggling readers and use the dots to keep track of homework. And omg! The crayon post-its! So cute - I'm using them already to mark the pages in the books for my courses. Did I mention 12 units? Yeah - better get back to that.

What's your BREAK been like?

Vegas: SDE's I Teach 2nd and TpT Conferences

This week has been a whirlwind! I've had the pleasure to meet teachers and bloggers I've stalked followed for a lot of my career - so exciting! And, I have learned and gained so much from the awesome session presenters. I'm about to learn more to make big gains with TpT this year! Here's a picture walk of my week so far...

The rooms at the Venetian were big!!!

There were rainbows...

And storm clouds.

I met the awesome Amy Lemons from Step Into Second Grade - the first blog I followed and my first TpT purchase.

I met Freckles Sinclair from GoNoodle!!!!!

I met super sweet Rachelle Smith, #ForBlognessSake - the one who taught me about Whole30!

And, I didn't gamble in Vegas, but I came away with a fortune!

Life Long Learner...

I may be taking a summer break from National Boards - hello Component 3 this fall - but I'm not taking a break from learning. This is what my summer break looks like today! Learning a lot - and can't wait to make improvements to how I run my literature circles next year!
