Educator for a Day!

Today we were lucky to have many fantastic community members and even our awesome councilman come to visit our school and be an Educator for a Day!

My class was so fortunate to have 4 "Educators" join us today for a super fun (and a little messy) Thanksgiving art activity! After the art activity each of our visitors read aloud to the students at their tables.

It was so much fun and the students just adored having them visit!

Thanks for the awesome experience and the generous donation to our school!! Hope y'all come back soon!

Don't Eat the Turkey!!!

Mrs. Dixon is a vegetarian so the kids know that I fully supported these turkey's mission to disguise themselves and not be eaten on Thanksgiving!

No one would ever guess these were turkeys. Wow! I am so happy we saved so many turkey lives this Thanksgiving!

Flat Us!

So we are plugging away with Flat Stanley and also practicing adjectives again this week because it didn't quite stick last week. Thinking Maps to the rescue! The Bubble Map is perfect and we've been making a ton!  In this assignment the students drew a picture of themselves (flat, like Stanley) and then made a bubble map with adjectives that describe them!

So cute and they are really starting to 'get' this adjective business!

The Donors Choose Fairy Arrived!

Oh this is so awesome! I might definitely have a project (or 4) I can use this on!

Thanks Donors Choose!

Breakfast Club!

No, no Molly Ringwald sighting today - just an awesome breakfast for 12 awesome kids who are homework superstars!

We feasted on purpley blueberry bagels and yummy strawberry cream cheese, delicious yogurt and refreshing juice! Yes - we are learning about ADJECTIVES this week!

This is the biggest group for Breakfast Club that I have ever had! Ever!

Hmmmm. I wonder how many will be at our next Breakfast Club?

Willie loves my students! He gets so excited when the bell rings and it's time to start the day!

We love Willie, too!

YAY! SLANT box time! It's like early Christmas!  S.L.A.N.T. (sending love across the nation to teachers)!

I met the awesome Becky this month! Check out her blog here!

I gotta say, the theme this month was tough but Becky nailed it! I love EVERYTHING she sent and can't wait to use the reading resources in my room!

Flat Stanley!

Oh I really, really love this book. For my class it's the first chapter book some of them have ever read. It's a short book, funny and full of great vocabulary and tie ins.

We just started the book but I wanted to get some writing practice in and knew my students would be creative in writing about what would happen if they woke up flat.

I LOVED reading these!

Ok - this made my day, not gonna lie! I hope it makes the day of my kiddo's parents, too!
We made the homepage of! I don't know how long it'll be up but I found it this morning and knew I had to show y'all a screenshot.

ELD Smarties!

In ELD today we are finishing up our unit on Pilgrims and they are beyond ready for their test tomorrow. So ready in fact, and so fantastic, that we decided to create our own tests for the rest of 2nd grade!

The kids were given very little direction but they had a lot of PK (prior knowledge) about tests so they were off and running! The tests look fabulous!

These kids are amazing!

A Little Pick Me Up

So we practiced finding the subject and predicate in sentences by creating a cute little pick me up for a friend who is dealing with some health issues.  The kids loved coming up with examples of strength and bravery and their drawings are priceless.

Best of all? They ROCK at subject and predicate - I predict A's for everyone Friday!
